FO ~ Socks #8/2008

Pattern: My own.
Yarn:
Regia Color 6-fädig / 6-ply (
Ravelry link)
Needles: 3.0mm & 2.75mm DPNs.
Thoughts: I love these, they're so colourful, toasty and warm. One ball had about 4” left when it was time to kitchener the toes, the other about 5’, so I was able to get a pair out of just the 2 balls.

From ball...

To socks:

Pattern: My own.
Yarn: It's a German sock yarn "
Admiral Ombre" by
Schoppel-Wolle (
Ravelry link), received in a Ravelry swap with kiwis. It reminds me of Trekking.
Needles: 2.5mm & 2.25mm DPNs.
Thoughts: Simple, easy socks that were fun to knit. It's always fun to swap with fellow sock knitters and to try new yarns!

FO ~ Socks #6/2008

Pattern:
Francie by Rebekkah Kerner (
Ravelry link)
Yarn:
Pink Cottage Yarn from Fringe Thanks J & S! (Fringe has now closed)
Needles: 2.75mm, 2.5mm & 2.25mm DPNs
Thoughts: After I knitted the first leg, I decided that the gorgeous colours of the yarn were obscuring the leg patterning. So, I frogged and knitted the legs in 2x2 ribbing.
Also, I made up my own toe, with ribbing on the top and plain underneath.
I LOVE the foot patterning.

(click the picture to see the larger version... this one went a little fuzzy when Blogger compressed it...)
Pattern: My own
Yarn: Heirloom Jigsaw #67
Needles: 2.5mm DPNs
Thoughts: These were a birthday present for my friend J. They were fun to knit, I especially enjoyed watching how the yarn knitted up. It's quite unlike any other self-patterning yarn I've used.

FO ~ Socks #4/2008

Pattern: My own
Yarn: Trekking Hand Art #503 Karibik
Needles: 2.25 & 2.5mm DPNs
Thoughts: I love these colours, particularly they way they appear on the legs. I do like the patterning on the feet, but when they're worn the lighter colours are mostly on the undersides of the feet.
Here's the other side of the socks...

FO ~ Socks #3/2008

Pattern: My own
Yarn: ONline Supersocke 100 Bambus Color
Needles: 2.25 & 2.5mm DPNs
Thoughts: I'm not overly thrilled with the colours, they're not what I expected when I ordered the yarn, however the socks are SO soft and silky. They're gorgeous.

FO ~ Socks #2/2008

Pattern: My own
Yarn: Patonyle by
Patons (
on Ravelry) in colourway #4306 (multi-blues)
Needles: 2.5mm & 2.25mm DPNs
Comments: Patonyle, how I love thee! It's beautifully soft and it washes and wears brilliantly. Some of the colourways left a lot to be desired, but I LOVE this one. Sadly (very sadly) Patonyle is discontinued now (much to the chagrin of many Aussie sock knitters!).

FO ~ Socks #1/2008
Where does the time go? Sheesh! Seriously, I need reminders to blog lol.
Here's the first pair of socks for 2008.

Pattern: My own
Yarn:
SWTC's TOFUtsies (
on Ravelry) in colourway #719 - Best Foot Forward.
Needles: 2.5mm DPNs
Comments: TOFUtsies is a fun yarn to use. It smells slightly of the sea, perfect for summer knitting. The socks are soft and silky to the touch and very comfortable to wear. Next time, I'll make the ribbing a little tighter.

FO ~ Socks #16/2007
Here's the last of my knitted items from 2007. (I do have a dishcloth that I test-knitted, but you'll have to wait a little longer to see that one).

Pattern: My own
Yarn:
Knit Picks Essential Tweed in the Plum colourway.
Needles: 2.5mm & 2.25mm DPNs
Comments: The first (and only)
Knit Picks yarn I've ever see and/or knitted with. (
Knit Picks yarn isn't available in Australia). Due to the warm weather I've only worn them once, but they're very comfortable.

CATWKS received!
My
Christmas Around The World Knitters Swap parcel
finally arrived!!!
My pal,
Jennifer, mailed it from the US on December 14th, and instead of taking about two weeks (allowing a little extra for Christmas) it took about a month! My opinion is that the box arrived in Melbourne around Christmas/New Year and that it's been sitting in quarrantine waiting to be processed. I guess like many in Australia in January, they had lots of staff take their annual holidays
*sigh*. I know it went to quarantine, because unfortunately they took out the pine sachet that Jennifer had included, but I still got to smell it when I opened the box.
Check out the riot of red/white goodies that Jennifer sent...

Candy canes, KnitPicks DPNs, a gorgeous stitchmarker, a sachet of SOAK (which I've been dying to try), CookieA's Mona sock pattern, some peppermint bark (absolutely delicious) and a skein of Mountain Colors Bearfoot in the, very pretty, Ruby River colourway. The Bearfoot is divine. How did she know that I've been searching for a wonderful red sock yarn? The last skein I ordered online turned out to be really pink (ugh!)

Jennifer knitted me a beautiful scarf. It's an ode to the candy cane and is a lovely crisp white and an glorious vibrant red. The yarn even has little glass candies in it!

Many thanks for my wonderful red and white Christmas swap package Jennifer. Thanks for all the time and effort that went into putting it together for me. I love it. It was definitely worth the wait!

Yarn: 4ply Merino & Cashmere sock (old version) from
The Knittery/
The KnitteryNeedles: 3.00mm & 2.50mm DPNs
Modifications: I wanted the cabling to run down the back and front of the leg, instead of down the side of the leg, so I adjusted the pattern accordingly. I used my standard heel and toe.
Thoughts: I really enjoyed knitting this pattern and I think the yarn compliments the pattern beautifully. They're a perfect fit.

Yummy Yarns
Recently, my good friends J and S gave me a gift certificate to
THE LOOPY EWE!!!
I umm-ed and ahh-ed for awhile (so many beautiful colourways, how do you choose?) before ordering...

2 skeins of
ShibuiKnits in the "Marine" colourway and a skein of
Zen String Bambewe in the "Linen" colourway.
Both yarns are 'new-to-me' and they're simply gorgeous! I found both yarns to be exactly the colours I'd expected and dealing with
The Loopy Ewe was an absolute pleasure. Totally hassle-free!
I also ordered
"Millicent", a CookieA pattern. The way the ribbing swoops across the foot has me fascinated. I'm looking forward to trying it.
I don't yet know which socks these yarns want to be, so feel free to make suggestions.
Thanks again S & J! :D

Bloomin' Gorgeous Feet and other goodness
I'm back, from being gone this week, and I was greeted by TWO international packages; one parcel and one box. (I *LOVE* international packages LOL).
The box contained...

My beautiful
Bloomin' Feet socks (see below), a cute keyring sock blocker that was sporting a sock that matches my
Bloomin' Feet socks, some Trader Joe's chocolate (smells delicious but I haven't opened it yet), 2 skeins of
Artyarns Supermerino in the most wonderful purple colourway (#126) and a set of
Clover bamboo DPNs size 2/2.75mm which is a size I can't get here (we can only get 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm & 4.5mm in Clover bamboo DPNs)!

Yarn:
Socks That Rock in the "Lapis" colourway

Hillary!
Hillary, you really "nailed" me with your colour, yarn, pattern and goodies choices! I've had the pattern on my list of "socks I want to knit" for ages now and the colours are "me" all over. The socks fit beautifully! They're very comfortable and toasty warm. I particularly love the way the pattern continues down the heel flap, which works perfectly for wearing them with my
Crocs.
My 2.5mm Clover DPNs are my favourite needles, so I'm thrilled to have a set in a different size. The keyring sock blocker is so cute and the tiny STR sock adorable. I'm thinking I might make myself a pair of gloves/mittens from the Artyarns. If I get a move on, I'll be able to wear them this winter. The chocolate will be savoured by this chocoholic ;o)
Many thanks
Hillary for being my
Bloomin' Feet pal. You've knitted me a pair of socks that I love. I'll wear them often and treasure them always. Thanks too for the fabulous goodies you also included.
The parcel contained...

my prize from
Meg's recent blog contest. It's 2 skeins of
Artyarns Ultramerino4, colourway #158, which is a range of greens with highlights of purple and pink. It's just gorgeous and is destined to become a pair of socks for me. Meg had asked me if I wanted to choose my prize or be surprised... I opted for being surprised and I couldn't be more delighted with what Meg selected. Many thanks Meg!

Thanks

A huge "thanks" to Ms
Yarnivorous who kindly picked up a ball of Tofutsies, at the Stitches & Craft Show, for me! Bon Voyage and have fun!
Secondly, many thanks for all of the comments and suggestions about 2.25mm bamboo DPNs. I'm particularly delighted to hear that Clover make a 2.25mm (thanks Harriet!). I'm going to follow up on all of them and, at this stage, I think I'll try some of the different brands you mentioned in order to find "my favourite". TYVM.

A prize & STR pic
Recently I won a prize in a contest
kmkat was holding on her
blog. I had a choice of prizes and chose...

A gorgeous skein of
Sophie's Toes Sock Yarn in the "Handsome Park Ranger" colourway.
Thanks kmkat!
I know I'll knit socks, but for the moment I'm not sure what pattern/design I'll use. I'll know it when I see it.

The other day I posted a pic of my STR socks. It was an overcast and rainy day and the photo was taken indoors, with a flash. I promised to take a "sunlight" one and here it is...
