TdF ~ Update

23 July 2008
Now we're into the third week of the TdF, I remember why some call it le Tour de Fatigue! Late nights and early mornings aren't the best combination. Don't get me wrong, I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the TdF (go Cadel!!!), in fact I seem to be doing more watching than knitting!

My socks are coming along... they're at the heels. I'm still hoping to have them done by the time the race hits l'Avenue des Champs-Élysées early Monday morning (AEST).

TdF ~ Update

10 July 2008
Well I'm a little under the weather (due to the weather and late nights watching the TdF) so my knitting's slowed a little. Also, I took a couple of nights off, in order to finish the item for my Aussie Knitters Swap pal. It needs to be posted next week, so it needs time to dry. It is finished now, so back to TdF knitting.

Socks: They're coming along, with a little more knitted on the first sock (not yet up to the second).

Scarf: I've started a scarf. It's using 5.5mm needles, so I'm working on that when not working on the socks.

TdF ~ Day 1, 2008

06 July 2008
This year I'm, again, participating in the TdF KAL.

TourdeFrance2008KAL

I entered in the "Maillot Vert" category and I'm planning on knitting a pair of TdF-inspired socks.

Yarn: Pear Tree Yarn's Shades of Alpaca. It's SO soft and gorgeous.

Status: after planning/pattern swatching/winding/knitting/frogging/planning, I started the first sock during the first day of the TdF.

The Race: Again, I'm cheering for Robbie McEwen and Cadel Evans. Go Silence-Lotto! Go Aussies!

Canterbury Dash or Canterbury "Run"?

20 October 2007
So... look what happened the first time I washed my Canterbury Dash socks...

Pretty shade of green isn't it?

This is why I ALWAYS handwash socks the first time I wash them.

I'm back...

13 August 2007
to about 95%, I think. I'm eons (well, maybe more like a month) behind in email and blogging, so I'm hoping to catch up this week *fingers crossed*.

Wow! Ms SocksForMum nominated me as a "Rockin' Girl Blogger"! Thank you Rebecca, it's much appreciated and very exciting.

Big thanks to Meg & Debby for hosting the Tour de France KAL. I had a blast, and I'm looking forward to next year. Thanks ladies!

Congrats to Cadel Evans for a marvellous TdF; such grit and determination to get up those climbs! He's now officially the first Australian cyclist to make it onto the podium (ie finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd) for the Tour de France. I hope he's managed to have a well-earned break!

I have managed to squeeze in some knitting (see next post for details).

Catch up

23 July 2007
The Fall 07 issue of Interweave Knits has lots of socks!

*****

Not much knitting has been occurring lately as I've been fighting a nasty cold. Hope to back to 100% soon!

*****

Go Cadel! He's looking good (in my opinion) and I've got my fingers crossed that he makes it to Paris in one piece (I'm not going to jinx him, so I'll just leave it at that...)

*****

Now... about that toe-up toe...

Ms Yarnivorous showed me the cast on. You basically wind the yarn counter-clockwise around 2 needles held together. No knots or provisional cast-ons required. The technique is also in the Summer 07 issue of Interweave Knits.

For the first toe, I *think* I started with 16 stitches on each needle. I discovered this was too wide so went down to 8 (as seen in previous post). I knitted the first round, and increased by knitting into the front and back of the second and second last stitches on each needle on the next round. I repeated these two rounds until I had the number of stitches I needed.

Hope this helps!

Day 9 - TdF07

17 July 2007
Well... stage 8 of this year's Tour de France turned out to be a nightmare for Aussies. We started the day with 5 Australian riders in the race, and ended the day with only two. Poor Stuart O'Grady and Michael Rogers crashed and Robbie McEwen was "too slow". *sigh* Since all three suffered injuries in crashes, all I can say is "Get Well Soon" guys. I enjoyed watching you ride and I look forward to seeing you all in next year's race.

Here's "Take Two" on the sock. It actually fits now LOL. Will start on the other one ASAP. I just realised the coverage has already started for tonight, so I'm off to watch.

Thanks for the comments, I'm planning on writing up the "Canterbury Dash" info and I'll also let you know about the toe pattern.

Go Cadel!

Day 8 - TdF07

15 July 2007
Here's what I worked on last night...

It wasn't supposed to be, but it became a "swatch"... it was too big (even though I'd done the maths!)

It's gone to the frog pond and I'll try again.

Day 7 - TdF07 ~ "Canterbury Dash" Socks

14 July 2007
Tour de France KAL 2007

Mesdames et messieurs, je présente mes nouvelles chaussettes "Canterbury Dash".

Pattern: Canterbury Dash (my own)
Needles: 2.5mm & 2.25mm DPNs
Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Colortweed #1004
Thoughts: These were quick and fun to knit. I made the pattern up as I went along. The yarn looked 'greener' in the ball (I pulled it out for the stash to used for the TdF KAL, figuring I'd inspire Robbie to win lots of "maillots verts") so I was surprised at how 'blue' the socks turned out. Not to worry though, blue is one of my favourite colours, and I love the socks!

Now, beacause you asked...

That's the hole in my finger from the 2.25mm metal DPNs. I'm a "thrower" and I push the needle back with my left index finger, hence the hole. *sigh*

Now to decide what's next on the needles...

Day 6 - TdF07

13 July 2007

More progress (and I have a hole in my finger to prove it!) on the socks. There's about 2 to 3 inches left on each before I start the toes.

I will take a 'daytime' shot, once they're done and when the weather cooperates. (It's very rainy here which is a good thing, considering we're in a drought and under water restrictions.)

Day 5 - Tour de France 2007

12 July 2007
It feels like I'm making slow progress...

Note: I've tried several times to post the picture, so I'll check back later to see if it worked. If not... imagine the same socks, but with gussets finished plus a little more.

Day 4 - Tour de France 2007

11 July 2007
Bonjour mes amis!

Aujourd'hui nous avons plus de progrès sur les chaussettes.

Heel flaps are done, heels are turned and gusset stitches have been picked up, so I'm working on the gussets now.

Here's hoping the peloton rides faster tonight! (Stage 3 made for a very late night/early morning!)

Day 3 - Tour de France 2007

10 July 2007
Whilst I watched the cycling, gasped at the nasty crash, and admired the gorgeous Flemish countryside, I knitted...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Robbie'll be in green again soon.

Day 2 - Tour de France 2007

09 July 2007
Well... I thought he was down and out, but Robbie McEwen somehow managed to pull off a stunning victory in the first stage of the Tour de France. Yay!

Meanwhile, I finished one sock leg and started on the next...

Day 1 - Tour de France 2007

08 July 2007
I'm taking part in the Tour de France KAL.

In support of Robbie McEwen, he's an Aussie, I joined the "Maillot Vert" category.

Tour de France KAL 2007

Here's the progress I made watching the prologue...

I'm only knitting these socks whilst I'm actually watching the Tour de France, so at other times of the day, I'll be working on my other SIPs (Socks In Progress).
