More yummy 2ply Aussie Merino from
Marta's Yarns. I'm using two strands (a nearly solid red one and a variegated green one) so I'm knitting with 4ply (standard sock yarn weight) on 2.25mm bamboo needles.
Anyone recognise the pattern?

At long last...
Finished!
Perfect fit! (and a really accurate colour representation IMO)
Pattern: Gentleman's Plain Winter Sock from
Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks.
Needles: 2.25mm 15cm DPN bamboo
Wool: 100% Aussie Merino 2ply from
Marta's Yarns. I used 2 strands together to give 4ply (standard sock yarn weight). I used 98grams.
I basically followed the pattern, but added some extra rounds of stockinette to make the legs longer. The pattern also called for a dutch heel, but even though that looked great and I was impressed with the result, it
just didn't fit my feet. So I used the heel that was in the pattern for the
Gentleman's Fancy Sock. The wide toe fits my foot beautifully. Also, instead of stockinette on the heel flap, I used eye of partridge, which looks great and is comfy.
Verdict? I LOVE them. They're my favourite pair so far. The colours are gorgeous, they fit beautifully and they're toasty warm (perfect for this Melbourne winter).

"Popcorn" 100% hand dyed wool, produced by rainbow wools for Calico & Chintz. Shade is "Pebbles" and batch #01. Birch 10mm needles. 21 stitches wide and 2 balls long (I folded it in half so that it would all fit in the photo... so it's the length you see x 2).
The wool is a pleasure to knit with. It's so soft and if you "scrunch" up the scarf it's gorgeously "squishy".
As far as I know Calico and Chintz don't have a website, but you can find them here:

Sunday 04/06/06
Sunday (yesterday) like so many other Melbourne knitters I went to the "Mini craft & yarn expo" at Coburg Town Hall. It wasn't quite what I was expecting (the "mini" should have tipped me off) but there were 12 - 15 stalls, including a bookstall.
I did meet
Sarah who had a stall filled with her gorgeous Collinette yarns. They very nearly tempted me and made me wish I was a lace/shawl/garment knitter. Sadly, I'm not. I greatly admire these items, I just don't have the desire to knit them and know that if I did start one, I'd never finish!
I did purchase some wool and yarn, and as soon as it's sunny enough, I'll grab some pictures and blog about them. I tried photos with the flash, but they look dreadful lol.
Anyway, after getting back from Coburg I decided some mindless knitting was in order. A rummage in the stash revealed a ball of cotton (really not sure how it got there or how long it's been there). Recalling all the dishcloths that people have been making lately, I decided to make a washcloth/face washer/exfoliater square from the cotton (bottom item in picture).
Thinking that looked a little boring, I found a pattern for a dishcloth and knit the top one, with the remainder of the ball.
The cotton is Anchor Magicline No.1. Colour #1430 and dye lot #66951. 50g/~70m. I used 4.5mm needles as recommended on the band, so it's a little thicker than 8ply.
Not sure if I'll be making more or not... I'll see how these "wear".

They're done!
Ta da! Here are the completed socks for my SYAC Spring Feet Sock Swap!
The yarn is Heirloom's Jigsaw 4 ply sock yarn. Colour #33. Lot #940.
I chose Heirloom because it's an Aussie company (even though this yarn was made in Italy), and as they're going OS (overseas, but I'm not saying where) I wanted to use yarn that was as Aussie as possible.
The pattern is from Issue #14 of
Creative Knitting and I made a couple of changes. I used 2.50mm needles instead of the 2.75mm the pattern called for. I felt the 2.75mm made the rib too 'holey' and 'loose', after I'd knitted an inch or so. I also used the Jigsaw instead of Opal (Heirloom = Aussie and I know the recipient likes these colours... I hope!)
Anyway, they're ready to be packaged up and make their way via Airmail to their new home! I do hope she'll like them!
