Red sock

28 September 2006

My red socks, for the Red Sock KAL, are on the needles!

Yarn: Opal Rainforest Ladybug
Needles: 2.5mm bamboo DPNs

I always forget how hard it is to photograph red!

Saturday Sky

23 September 2006

Here's today's Saturday Sky, taken this morning. Yes I was up high. No I'm not THAT tall. LOL

Good News: The hand's improving
Bad News: Now I've had an allergic reaction to the adhesive (which I was expecting but hoping wouldn't happen), so no more BandAids/Elastoplasts for the moment. (Thank goodness it's healed enough to have scabbed over!)

Lack of knitting?

20 September 2006

Recycle bin + fence + hand = OW!!!

I have a nice chunk out of the fleshy web part between my thumb and first finger. Do you know how hard it is to get an Elastoplast/BandAid to stick? No matter what I do, the plaster keeps wanting to come off... hence the extra white tape.

So, this explains the lack of knitting around here... *sigh*

Saturday Sky

Today's Saturday Sky.

Saw the Holden Airship tied down at Essendon Airport when I went out to Tullamarine (Melbourne's domestic/international airport). By the time I came back it was in the air.

On the way back from Ikea I was finally able to snap the pic!

One Finished Object

14 September 2006

Garterlac "dish" cloth, but in this case it'll be a "wash" cloth.

Yarn: Sugar 'n Cream cotton colour #02235 Country Side Ombre
Needles: 4.5mm Clover bamboo needles (yeah, I used DPNs, so sue me LOL)
Pattern: Garterlac dishcloth from Dave aka Criminy Jickets

Thoughts: This was great fun to make. I've always been intrigued by entrelac but had always figured it was very complicated to knit. I'd seen Dave's garterlac pattern knitted up on several blogs, so when the cotton arrived in my box from Jaymi, I knew exactly what I wanted to knit first.

Saturday Sky

09 September 2006

Today's sky was very changeable. One minute it was sunny with fluffy white clouds, the next it was overcast and/or raining with grey clouds. That's Melbourne!

After a busy week, I've been catching up on email. Not much knitting progress to report.

I MUST finish the baby jumper!!!

By the way, if anyone knows of a SOCK SWAP (and signups for it are still open) please let me know. Thanks.

As promised...

03 September 2006
The other day I mentioned that my abso-damned-lutely fabulous friend Jaymi had sent me a box of goodies.

The customs dec said "yarn" so I had some kind of idea (or so I thought) what to expect.

I was greeted with...

I just LOVE that blue/purple one in the top right corner! It's SO gorgeous! I'm itching to cast on, but I'm going to have to teach myself how to knit "toe-ups" first, as I want to use every bit of the yarn. The one on the top left is actually a blue/white yarn that's a wool/cotton/nylon blend. The bottom left is a cream colour and will make some very funky socks. Love the blue/white colour blend of the one in the bottom right. I don't think it'll work for socks, but it will be fun to knit, so I'm on the hunt for the right project.

But wait, there's more. That was just the top layer. Underneath was...

COTTON!!! DISHCLOTH COTTON!!! Cotton that you can't get here!!! Man o man, you should have seen me jumping about when I found them! I'm still trying to work out how Jaymi knew what I was really wanting when I didn't even mention it to her??? (Maybe she really is psychic? LOL) Also, some really pretty yarn in autumn colours with a lovely copper shimmer.

I'm sure you'll agree, an excellent box of goodies, made even more special because they're not available here. Most of all they're special because they came from Jaymi and she knows me well :o)

Thanks Jaymi!
(Now, get knitting! :P LOL)

Opal Chameleon Update & New MagKnits

Wanted to also put my comments about the Opal Chameleon here:
"I did "throw" them in the washing machine with everything else and they washed beautifully. They "bloomed" (I *think* that's the right term? I mean that they "fluffed" up a little bit) and softened nicely so they're even comfier to wear."

There's a new edition of MagKnits out! Make sure to pop over and take a look. I love the look of the Snicket Socks.

Spring has sprung

01 September 2006
It's officially the first day of spring!

Not much time for knitting since I last blogged. The jumper is still coming along. The collar's done now, just just the button bands left to knit, then I've got to sew it all up (sewing up's definitely my least favourite part of knitting).

I have made a little progress on a secret project. I wonder if anyone can guess what I might be knitting? (No, it's not a pair of socks LOL) I'm using something from my box of goodies that my wonderful friend Jaymi sent me. (I'll give you a bit of a clue... she lives in the USA, so everything she sent is "new to me" as I can't walk into a store here and buy it.) I have pictures of my goodies, so next time I blog I'll post them.

Enjoy this magical (gorgeously sunny and warm 23c) spring day and happy knitting!
