Former "secret" knitting

22 December 2006
Here are a couple of pairs of socks that were formerly "secret" knitting projects. As the recipients have already opened their gifts, I'm able to post about them...

The first pair I made using my standard sock pattern using some red/white striping sock yarn from Wolle Hartmuth and 2.50mm DPNs.

This pair is made from Regia 4 fadig Crazy Color #5402 on 2.25mm DPNs and the pattern is from Patons book #1239.

More secret knitting will be revealed soon.

ps Yes, they're "fraternal" pairs of socks, and deliberately so.

YARN Magazine & Mag Nation

15 December 2006
Last night I went to YARN Magazine's knit in at Mag Nation. It was great to meet Barbara, Rosemary and Sarah from YARN and to catch up with lots of knitters, some of whom I know from my SnB group.

The evening was filled with lots of chatting and knitting and I had a fabulous time. I also came home with goodies...

Two balls of Rare Fire from The Rare Yarns Company, an alpaca, mohair and merino blend (approx 14ply) that's soft and squishy and a set of 5.50mm Birch metal DPNs. These were a gift from Barbara (the editor of YARN) to say 'thanks' (for sitting and knitting in the window of Mag Nation on Sunday, to publicise the knit in).

When you purchased a copy of the new issue of YARN last night you received a 'goodie bag'. There were a couple of different goodie bags, and mine contained 2 sets of Clover bamboo DPNs (3.5mm & 4.00mm) and a ball of Ornaghi's Merino Kind #125 which is a super soft 8ply. Yum!

Thanks to YARN Magazine and Mag Nation for a wonderful evening. I hope it's the first of many.

Brace yourselves...

I'm thinking about knitting lace. I know, I know, who'd have thunk it? I think I'd have to find the right pattern first though.

I've been knitting away on a secret project (Christmas knitting makes for very bad blogging, that and being sick for the past two weeks *sigh*) and it has some yarn overs and knit-2-togethers. So, it got me to thinking... maybe knitting some lace might be kewl...

Anyone have any suggestions for super simple lace projects? I'm thinking something that's not too big and not too complex but still has some interest.

Goodies

03 December 2006
A very dear friend of mine, S, recently sent me a box of gorgeous goodies all the way from Fringe in the US of A.

Behold... (and be prepared to drool all over your keyboard)

Mountain Colors Bearfoot ~ Wild Raspberry

Mountain Colors Bearfoot ~ Wildflower

Fleece Artist Merino ~ "Raspberry" (FA don't name their colours)

Fleece Artist Merino ~ Purples, teal, blue
Note: This particular colourway was chosen for me by S's super-gorgeous young assistant J. These are my favourite colours! Thanks J!!! (your Mum will give you a big hug, from me).

Pink Cottage Yarn (Exclusive Hand-Dyed yarn from Fringe)
[The colours are a little more subtle than in this pic. Lovely "Autumny/Fall" colours]

Austermann Step #05 (with Aloe Vera & Jojoba Oil)

Plus... a Mountain Colors "Ripple Socks" pattern and a couple of sets of ChiaoGoo Bamboo DPNs (size 1, 6inch ~ nice short ones).

Now as you can imagine, this Aussie sock knitter was (and still is) totally over the moon when she set eyes upon this lovely sock yarn that's not available here in Australia. It's super soft and marvellously squishy and I can't wait to knit with it. (Got to wait until the New Year though, then all the "secret" knitting will be finished)

I have to say thank you to Fringe, S's LYS (Local Yarn Store). S isn't a knitter (don't hold that against her!) so the lovely ladies at Fringe were incredibly helpful and as a result, everything is just what I would have chosen if I'd visited the store myself :D I'm positively green with envy that Fringe is so close to S lol (although I'm sure my bank account isn't!)

A HUGE thanks to S (and J)! I'm beyond delighted with my goodies.
