Finished Socks #16

25 November 2006

Finished Socks

Yarn: Opal Hundertwasser #1437
Needles: 2.5mm (legs) & 2.25mm (feet) bamboo DPNs
Pattern: my standard sock pattern

One was knitted from the centre of the ball and the other from the outside of the ball.

These are the longest pair of socks I've made for myself. I kept knitting the first one until I was sure I'd have the green/yellow section on the heel flap.

Saturday Sky 25/11/06 ~ Election Day

Saturday Sky 25/11/06 ~ Election Day

It's been overcast most of the day with an occasional burst of sunshine and an occasional sprinkle of light rain.

Don't forget to vote today (in the Victorian State Election) or you'll cop a fine!

The baby socks

17 November 2006

Do you realise how hard it is to take a picture of socks on an active 12 month old? lol

They fit perfectly. The only problem with this is that the pattern states "0-2 years". He's exactly 1 year old, so if anyone else is planning to knit the pattern, you might like to measure the recipient's feet first!

Misc

15 November 2006
Yay, it's pouring rain here! We need lots of rain (currently most of Australia is in a severe drought) and it's even better than it's raining whilst I'm inside lol.

What've I been up to? I'm on a podcast kick at the moment. Lime & Violet are a riot! It's a knitting podcast, but they regularly digress, plus they LOVELOVELOVE sock yarn so be prepared to drool if you go and look at the links/yarn they talk about (says she who also loves sock yarn, like you didn't know that about me LOL).

Cast-on is an old favourite and I've been catching up on the early episodes that I'd missed.

I've also discovered a new knitting podcast, Sticks & String by David Reidy. Who's David? He's an Aussie knitter, and I'm really enjoying listening to an Aussie talking about knitting.

Knittingwise, I'm knitting myself a pair of socks (socks, what a surprise) from a ball of the new Opal Huddertwasser. One leg's done and the other's about 2/3s done.

Socktober/November

07 November 2006
In honour of Socktoberfest I set out to see how many pairs of socks I could knit, for myself, during October.

Answer?
1x Opal Ladybug
1 x Regia Tibet
and half a pair of...

Opal Prisma

I would have finished this third pair if not for a hand injury (nasty, nasty scratch on my right hand right where the needle 'sits', that became infected *sigh*)

So now, they count as a pair of "finished in November socks" for SAM2.

Yarn: Opal Prisma #1195
Needles: 2.50mm & 2.25mm Bamboo DPNs
Pattern: My own, standard 2x2 ribbed cuff and the remainder in stocking stitch/stockinette. Short-row heel directions from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch.

Verdict: First time I've successfully managed short-row heels. They're not perfect, but I can live with them and will try s-r heels again.
